Usui Reiki Ryoho
What is Usui Reiki?
Usui Reiki is the most practiced style of Reiki worldwide and was founded in Japan by Dr. Mikao Usui back in 1922. Mikao Usui was on a personal journey into self-discovery which soon resulted in Reiki first making contact with him. Mikao Usui only taught many students before he died in 1926 and until 1937, Reiki very much stayed within Japan. Hawayo Takata Sensei (one of Usui's first 20 students) was responsible for moving Reiki out of Japan via Hawaii.
Until recently, Usui Reiki was passed on using a very specific initiation process known as "Reiju" and a highly defined method of practice. Most teachers still use a lot of these traditional methods of teaching today, however the energy itself has expanded in lots of different directions as many different lineages and approaches have since emerged. Other forms of Reiki include Holy Fire®, Karuna Reiki® and many more.
The Four Aspects of Usui Reiki
The following aspects were introduced by Usui Sensei but is particularly relevant for all styles of Reiki
The Usui system has it's basis for both self-healing and giving healing to others. These hand positions are used in all forms of Reiki to this day and are used to focus healing towards a particular area of the mind and body.
Despite Reiki classes being quite short, they are still a process. Through practice of Reiki, the student is presented with lessons and life choices that address underlying perceptions and beliefs that the student has acquired over time. One way or another, unhelpful habits and belief systems that no longer serve you will leave through practice of Reiki.
Regular practice can result in a very personal energetic connection being made between the student and spirit. This is what has resulted in Reiki evolving and shifting into a higher vibration. For this reason, Reiki is very much considered a spiritual path in it's own right.
Practice of Reiki can create highly mystical experiences as well as a sense of connection and purpose.
Usui Reiki Attunements/Placements
A Reiki attunement is the initiation process whereby the teacher gives the student the ability to tap into the energy. This was done traditionally using a very specific ritual that has been passed down from the masters of this energy system. This is the attunement method that most teachers use today but the rate in which teachers are upgrading their Reiki abilities is drastically increasing. Newer energy systems such as Lightarian Reiki™ and Holy Fire® III Reiki reach a much higher and finer vibration to the point where the attunement process has shifted into to a much simpler, more powerful approach. This does not mean to say that the traditional Usui attunement is less effective but just means that other energies have come forward to refine the process. Ultimately, it comes down to what resonates with the student/teacher in terms of which attunement process to practice.
A lineage refers to the person who first channelled an energy. Mikao Usui, Chujiro Hayashi, Hawayo Takata and Phyllis Lei Furomoto are the lineage of the Usui Reiki system as they were the first who channelled it. The teachings of this system have been passed down in many different directions which is responsible for the evolution of Reiki and it's methods of teaching.
